Festival of four religions for refuge in Bangladesh, 660 Euros
After the recent
departure of the director of four homes for orphans and street
children, the future of these disadvantaged children became
uncertain. A number of donors withdrew because of the scandal, and
new management was difficult to find. Two local staff members
managed to keep the homes going, but they were unable to obtain
sufficient funds in the long term.
A Dutch woman, Joke Wittekoek of JW Support,
has recognized the plight of these children and has taken over the
full care for 66 children who could not be placed in other homes,
and the financial responsibility for the education of another 15
children. She has found private resources to do this and has
involved a local partner, Shalom Bangladesh Mission Trust. She has
had to work hard to make ends meet, and there is no money for
extras.
There is no money to celebrate the festivals of the children's
various religions – Christians, Hindus, and Muslims – with a
meal that includes meat, deserts and sweets; nor is there money to
have an annual picnic, or to organise a trip, to a museum for
example, every two years. For that, JWSupport is asking for a €
660 donation. This will be sufficient to offer many moments of joy
to 111 children (including the 39 children who have been placed with
the local partner).
