Daycare for children of (teenage) drug addict mothers, Bolivia, 1350 Euros
Mission Adulam has various centres for addicted young people and adults in La Paz, Bolivia. One of these centres, Talita Cumi, houses young addicted women and (teenage) mothers as well as any children they may have. The staff tries to help the young women to clean up and build a new, independent life. The centres are led by a Dutch woman, Fineke Janssen, a former nun who lost her heart to Bolivia and has lived there for many years. Moments of Joy has supported various projects that she has suggested, for example Christmas dinners, painting of the centres, sewing machines for job training and contributions to Christmas parties in the
centres.
Now Mission Adulam would like to start up a daycare for the children who live with their mothers in Talita Cumi, or sometimes with both young parents, in one of the rehabilitation centres. There are undesirable situations in the centres during the day for the children. If there is a separate care centre, the children can be given a responsible educational programme while their parents work on their own problems. This would also give the staff the opportunity to have a greater influence on the children, who often arrive with an exceptionally dysfunctional past, and will also allow the children to work on the gaps in their learning processes. The number of children to be cared for will vary according to the needs of the rehabilitation centres; at the moment that number is about 10 children, varying in age from a few months to about 7 years.
There is space for the daycare and the centres can pay for repairing the roof. What is needed is money for the furnishings.
1350 Euros are needed for tables, chairs, a large carpet, cribs, a playpen, radio, television and DVD player, educational and creative games and materials.
