Computer Course for Brian, Mombassa, Kenya,
800 Euro
Brian Furaha Lopezi is 23 years old. He left school (Secondary School Level, form 4) in 2003 with a leaving certificate with an excellent Headmasters report and seven subjects none below a C grade. His family could not afford to let him study further so he went to work and help support his family.
Brian's dream was to work in the hotel business and in 2005 he was able to get a job as non permanent staff as an animator in Whitesands Hotel, Mombassa. Brian has done remarkably well in this capacity and has been praised by his superiors for his diligence and hard work. However, to get a permanent position, or to be allowed into the management training programme of the hotel, he needs to be able to work with computers.
For 400 euros he can follow a three month computer course with Yaris Data Systems in Mombassa. A course that is recognized by the association of computer professionals in the UK and the official representative of the West London College.
Brian comes from a poor family that has been supportive of him and which he in turn helps to support. Moments of Joy's projectfinder has known Brian for years and writes to us: "As a supporter of Brian's application I can only say that he is one of those rare human beings you meet whose drive and ability matches his sincerity and willingness to further himself in a manner that is admirable considering the responsibilities he carries towards his family.
Giving Brian this rare opportunity, which I know he will make good use of, will not only put him in a position to assist his own family but allow him, in the future, to make a difference to his society as a whole."
