Playground and sitting area for a children’s home in Nepal, 1200 Euros

Noble House, a private initiative of two Dutch people, is a children's home 5 kilometres away from Bhaktapur (in the area of Nagargot) and 25 kilometres from the capital of Kathmandu.
The children in the home come from mountain villages around Nagargot, which do not usually have their own schools. Due to the unstable political situation and extreme poverty, the children often come to the cities with their parents, hoping to find work. If they are unsuccessful they will become vagrants. Parents in this poorest section of society often offer their children for sale, sometimes deliberately but frequently lured by the false stories of human traffickers who want to take the children to India for child labour or prostitution.

There are now 21 disadvantaged children between the ages of 1 and 18 living in Noble House, and support is given to an additional 20 children by providing them with free education . They are completely dependent on sponsors, and therefore only receive the basics. The children have never known any luxury. Their 'move' to Noble House, away from poverty, abuse and human traffickers, has been a great step forwards of course, but real joy is harder to provide. We cannot take away the horrors of their past, but can help to create new and better moments and give them some trust in the future.

In the past Moments of Joy donated a radio and cd-player and a small colour TV.

Now the Dutch initiator - Engely Tersteeg – would like to construct a sitting area and playground. This would offer the children and the people who work in the home a place to play and talk together. Such a space is not possible indoors. The outside area would also offer a place to rest to the people who come to the home everyday to ask for help.

The outdoor sitting area would be built adjacent to Noble House. There will be a wall 3 1/2 metres long and about 2 1/2 metres high. An iron folding plate roof will be placed on top of this that is pitched on two sides and covered with roofing tiles. It will also have a wooden construction consisting of posts placed in concrete and the roof support. This must be good pine to assure durability. The ground will be levelled and finished off with stone. Tables and benches will be placed in the protected area. There will be some outdoor play equipment in the area for the children. And there will be simple lighting for the evenings.
