In 2009 four villages
near Mude, Nepal, received water through active participation of the
Namaste Foundation Breda and a donation by Moments of Joy. One of
the villages, Danda Kharka, in that area could't get the access to
water as it was located on higher grounds and the cost of bringing
water up-hill would be enormous. So every time the villagers need
water they have to walk down to a neighboring village. Water is not
only essential for the households but also for their cattle and
crops.
A solution however has been found to solve
this problem. With permission of the government the villagers can
now use water from a higher up lake, which is filled with pure and
safe glacier water. The villagers are very enthusiastic about this
solution and are able to pay 25% of the cost to make the connection
between the lake and their village. (The Namaste Foundation Breda
only helps realize projects if the local community participates.
This way successful realization and co-responsibility is guaranteed.)
The remaining cost, after the contribution of the villagers, for
this project will be € 2090,-- and Namaste Breda asked Moments of
Joy for help. Moments of Joy has participated in earlier projects in
this region and has helped realize a project where a number of
villages, including Danda Kharka, received access to electricity. If
the village of Danda Kharka would now be able to have water as well
that would be wonderful for them.
