School essentials for children in Surinam, 1250 euros
There are many single mothers in Surinam who struggle to make ends meet. There is no money for essential items for school, such as books, exercise books, pencils and pens.
Under the guidance of Mrs Venetiaan, the First Lady of Surinam, a number of fundraising activities have been set up to organise school sets for primary school children aged 4 to 12. The children have been selected in consultation with schools located in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Paramaribo, Wanica, Wageningen and Coronie. The school sets, costing 10 euros each, consist of a school bag, a pencil case with pens and pencils, a diary, eraser and pencil sharpener, plus some exercise books.
1250 euros will enable MOJ to pay for 125 school sets.This will ensure a positive start of the school year for 125 children.
