Materials for the rural agronomist school "Centro Educativo Agropecuario Tarat", in Bolivia, Euro 1340

The Centro Educativo Agropecuario Tarat is a boarding school for rural children in Tarata, Bolivia. Officially, the school can take 65 students, but at the moment there are more than 80 students. The demand for places at the school far exceeds the available space and resources, and the school is now stretched to a maximum.

The children are offered the official state curriculum and - more importantly - learn agricultural and technical skills. The aim is to teach the children to use their parents' plots of land more efficiently and productively. This will improve the economic situation of their families. It will also keep the children from ending up on the streets in the cities. The only other option for schooling that the parents have is to send their children to the city to go to high school, but the kids do not have the resources to pay for their stay away from home so a lot of them end up living on the streets.

The school is an initiative of one man, who is very committed to the villages in the area, and his efforts and success are amazing. The school is being built gradually on municipal premises. It has obtained the right to use the plot for 30 years, and the government pays the salaries of five teachers. But the rest of the money for resources, food, tools, animals etc. has to come from donations of local people who support the project. Since the region is quite poor and the demand for a place at the school is increasing daily, the boarding school is permanently in need of all basic necessities.
