Beds and a deepfreeze for an orphanage in Zimbabwe, 2498 Euros

  • Moments-of-joy op Facebook
Queen Elizabeth Children's Home is a home for orphans, abused and abandoned children in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The home is run by the Church of the Seventh Day Adventists and houses 30 children in the ages of 11 months to 10 years, some of whom are HIV positive. The staff receives some income from donations of people in the neighbourhood and by running a pre-school.

In the fifty years that the home has existed, the furniture has become threadbare and since everyone must concentrate on the food budget, there is no money to replace it. For the children's "living room" Moments of Joy bought six new couches and a second-hand rug (210 Euros).

This time the Queen Elizabeth Children's Home has asked for eight new beds with mattresses (to be able to provide space for eight new children) and a deepfreeze. Total cost will be ca. 2350 Euros. Because of the insanely high prices and the extremely bad economy of the country, many basic needs have become unaffordable. Food prices have also become exorbitant, which is why Moments of Joy also offered a special meal of chicken (an enormous luxury), fresh vegetables and crisps, and of course a real dessert (148 Euros).
