Camino a Casa

Mexico City, Mexico, € 1.950,-

Camina a Casa (literal translation – "The way home"-  is a safehouse for girls in Mexico City that have fallen victim to human trafficking. The girls can find a safe place to stay to get away from life threatening situations because their pimps are trying to get them back.
The house is run by Patricia Prado, a strong woman who makes an enormous effort to help these girls and who tries to fight Trafficking in general.
Camina a Casa goals are to make sure that the girls that pass through their "house" will learn to reintegrate in society and give them a fair chance of a normal life.
Camino a Casa also tries to make a difference by informing others about the fact that sexual violence is hardly ever punished in Mexico. One can say that it is still a taboo to talk about it. The foundation will grab every opportunity to let people know about their work and they try and gain influence with politicians to plea their case. Lectures and information nights are organised to create more knowledge for people interested.

In the house – which currently houses 20 girls – they would like to build a classroom for three people. Here three girls can follow the secondary education programme via internet because outside of the safehouse it is to dangerous for these girls to go to school. From the money that they would receive they would like to build desk's, buy computers and organise internet connection. In other words...anything that is needed for these girls to follow their chosen education online.
Because of the taboo on sexual violence in Mexico, Camino a Casa doesn't receive any government funding and thus is reliant on private contributions and donations.

Needed: € 1.950,--

The amount needed has been received from Moments of Joy and the classroom has been built! The girls can now follow their education and build on a happier and better future.
