Contact volunteers offer counselling for free, South Africa, 420 Euros and 420 Euros

Contact is an organisation that offers free counselling service to people in the region of Bulawayo who cannot afford the fees charged by private counsellors. The counsellors are volunteers, trained by Contact, who offer their services after work and during the weekend.

The goals are: empowerment of (abused) women by supporting them in their claim to rights and the improvement of their economic situation. Reduction of HIV infections by identifying risk behaviour and stimulating alternative safe behaviour. The increase of community awareness concerning social problems and issues such as children's rights and needs, healthy family conditions, dealing with stress, etc.

The counselling centre is much needed and very popular. Therefore, it started a train-the-trainers programme: instruction in basic counselling skills for volunteers in the western areas (townships or high density areas) and the establishment of Asivumeni HIV/AIDS support groups.

The centre asked Moments of Joy for help in buying a photocopying machine to be able to reproduce the information papers and sheets (books are not available or unaffordable). They were 420 Euros short to buy a 1300 Euro machine.
Moments of Joy further donated a second 420 Euros to the train-the-trainer programme, for transport costs for the "students", certificates for those who finish the course, office supplies for the counsellors in the townships, etc.

TOTAL € 840,-
