Educational visits and wheelchair trailer, Zimbabwe, from €850, total € 2000

  • Moments-of-joy op Facebook
With an increasing number of children in wheelchairs if KG VI school takes them on any trips, they cannot fit children and wheelchairs in the bus. The school would like to purchase a small lightweight trailer which could fit 6 to 8 wheelchairs and could be towed behind the bus.

Now that they have a suitable bus, and hopefully a wheelchair trailer in the near future, the school would like to be able to take children on educational visits around Bulawayo again: Art trips to local beauty spots for sketching & painting, visits to the National History Museum, visits to local libraries, visits to wildlife orphanage, History visits to local rock art sites & archaeological sites, visits to local companies for science classes. Moments of Joy financed these trips before and they are a huge success.

A trailer costs € 1150
Five educational visits cost €850

Total € 2000

About KGVI

KG VI provides rehabilitation and boarding facilities to children from age 3 to 18 with physical disabilities and hearing impairments. It is the only secondary education facility in Zimbabwe for children with disabilities and the only primary school in the southern part of the country.
Through its school program, KGVI offers rigorous academic training leading to collegiate admission, and trade-oriented programs for those unprepared to pursue higher education. Physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy are also offered to every child by staff and assistance from international volunteers. KGVI operates 10 independent living housing where graduates live in a group setting with assistance from house parents.

Graduates of KGVI graduate with critical life and leadership skills; several have even become guardians of younger siblings when serious illness cut short the lives of parents. In a country where the average life expectancy is less than 40, more than1.2 million children have been left without one or both parents due to the Aids pandemic, as reported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Currently KGVI is reliant on the generosity of donors from around the world who believe that every child should have the chance to live a full and productive life, in spite of physical or medical challenges.

REPORT

From our project finder:

“We were able to 3 exam classes for a trip to Victoria Falls after their end of year exams were finished. They had a wonderful time and really got to understand a bit more about their own country. They all got to feed elephants which freaked them out a bit but they all managed it in the end. Attached is a photo of a photo which is why the quality isn’t very good. I will make sure to send you some others once they have downloaded them.”
