L' Accolade - creative activities for children in a holidaypark for families with a disabled child or parent.

L 'Accolade is a holidaypark in France - providing bungalows and a camping-ground with tents, which aims at Dutch families with a disabled familymember. These families can't go to ordinary holidayparks, because parks with facilities for the handicapped are rare, expensive and in any case do not offer continuous care.

Besides that, able family members usually don't get a break during the holidays, because the care for the disabled continues as usual, perhaps even more intensively, over the holidays.
L 'Accolade was built by volunteers, with the help of financial donations from various institutions and organisations. It has all the technical facilities and equipment for the disabled and round the clock care is available. Most of the staff are volunteers which makes the costs of renting a cottage or camping at l'Accolade more affordable.
The park was officially opened in 2002. During the High Season of 2003, over a period of 8 weeks, the management is expecting 134 children (some of them disabled). There are volunteers available who are willing to undertake creative activities with the children. For the material - paint, pencils, brushes, paper, glue, etc.- L 'Accolade needs 800 Euros.
