Prize for the best students of KG VI: excursion

  • Moments-of-joy op Facebook

KG VI is a boarding school for handicapped children in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Moments of Joy has done several projects for this centre, which is having a difficult time giving their children what they need, let alone offer them a future after school.
To motivate children to keep on studying, no matter how bleak the future might seems, the school planned an outing for the best students to the famous Victoria Falls.

From the letter of the director: "This is to try and encourage them to work hard and to be serious with their lessons. It was really sad that one of our very best students died a week ago. Tinaye was one of the students we sent to the private school and she had such dreams. Sadly she just wasn't strong enough to fight off a very serious chest infection. We were all heartbroken to lose one of our most lively children, and one with such plans for the future. The death of one of the students always has such a negative effect on the others and they start asking themselves what is the point of even trying. This is one of the reasons for the Victoria Falls plan. We will also be sending 6 staff with them - the staff will be voted for by the children. Thus we motivate the staff as well!"

Fourteen senior students who have really tried their best in school were chosen to go and they in turn could choose the 6 staff members that were to accompany them. The Victoria Falls park and the crocodile park have offered free entrance to the children. The school only needed 600 Euro for tranpsort, an overnight stay in the huts of the national park beside the Zambezi river and a good meal. Moments of Joy would like to add another 150 Euro to enable the kids to buy a souvenir or extra meals.
We need a total of 750 Euro.

TOTAL € 750,--
