Sportequipment for primary school in Bankass, Mali, ca. € 500

A group of Dutch volunteers managed to start a (Montessori) Primary School in Bankass, a remote area in Mali.

They initiated a special programme aimed at convincing parents of the use and necessity of sending their children to school. Children who otherwise could have contributed to the family's income by working the land.

Those children who live too far from school to go home for lunch are given a free meal. ( Sadly there is not enough money to give all children a free lunch.) Everyday, each child brings a branch of wood to school, for the cooking fire. And those children who bring a plastic bottle to school, are given water. The water is fetched by the older children from a well that is quite a distant away from the school. Neither the children or the school own any toys or sport materials. The school would very much like to buy some sport materials, like footballs, basketballs, two goals, a net, cones, hoops, whistles for referees, skipping ropes and vests for the teams. The complete cost for this project has not been finalised yet, but the estimate is about 500 Euros.
