Sports Equipment Nkulumaziba Community School

Realised!

With the help of Moments of Joy sports equiment was purchased for the schoolchildren of the Nkulumaziba Community School. Josien, the founder of ZAP, handed out volleyballs, hockeysticks, badminton rackets and skipping ropes to the excited children. ZAP beleives that sports is an important part of education.

Zambia, € 2.000,-

ZAP Foundation (Zambia Allocation Program) was founded in march of 2008 by Josien Dudok van Heel with its goal to provide projects aiming to improve the living standards of poor groups in Zambia with one-time or continuous financial support. Of course Josien has no financial interest in any of the projects other than the completion and success.
In the fast growing communities, approx. 50 km from Mumbwa, one finds two tribes, the "Kaindu" and the "Tonga's". These communities have a headmen that leads them,  and these men  work closely together so they can benefit from each other's skills/knowledge and materials  for Farming to help their communities grow. Some even have a small tractor that will be used by everyone for working the land.

The tribes themselves have built a temporary school from grass and clay, but most of the children still receive their education outdoors. In the past there were no qualified teachers due to lack of housing.
It wasn't possible for the children to receive an education that would go further than 5th grade. Due to the size of the school some children would go to school in the morning whilst others would attend their classes in the afternoon.  Teachers where being paid by the community.
Should the tribes provide the teachers with proper accommodation and schools the state would then provide the teachers and pay their salaries.
This would mean continuity in the education and a higher quality of education, which then will result in children getting a better education and better chances in their future life.

ZAP oundation has already built a first school block with two classrooms and 5 double toilets. This last year they started the build of 4 houses for teachers which were finalized in June.  They have now started building a second block consisting of three classrooms.
Over 250 children visit the school and it will only become more in the future.

The next step is the construction of a sports field. The children will make this field together with their teachers.
ZAP has asked Moment of Joy to help them purchase the materials needed to play sports, such as foot ball's, hockey sticks, volleyballs and nets etc. etc.
They need a contribution of € 2000,--
Should this be realized the Nkulumaziba Community School will be a proper school with education, sports and games.
