The situation in Mozambique is still troublesome. Kidnapping and robberies happen every day and they are getting more violent. Our project was victim too as our clubhouse and the second hand shop were broken into and everything was taken, which is of course a disaster for our modest project. We started it up again and even hired an armed guard to protect our supplies. The local police is corrupted en even rents out weapons to criminals. It is truly a banana republic and to make things worse lately there has been more religious unrest between Muslims and Christians.

One of the most successful projects is the soccer school 'Leoes de Holanda' (lions of Holland) . the soccer school has nurtured young talents who made it as professional soccer players into the 1st and 2nd liga clubs. These kids are now able to earn their living. Often they also return as trainers to our project or as coaches for a new generation of talented soccer players which is important for developing continuity for the school. This year there were again a lot of organized games and tournaments both in the local area as for the regular competition. And this year we started a few more girls teams again and we started a clubhouse to generate more income to try to get the school financially more independent.

Every year there the school needs to invest for new supplies for both the boys and the girls teams. Thanks to the generous donations of moments of joy we were able to buy the materials.

Centro de Encontro is an independent NGO that has organised many activities for street children in Maputo over the past 15 years. The Dutch Rene Boezaard started this project in 1994 en was able to hand over the organisation to a local staff who were trained by himself in 2000. The staff works together with many volunteers from the area.

One of the most successful projects is the football school "the lions of Laulane" with a very active boys department. This school plays a serious role in the competition of the city of Maputo. Since a number of years it also runs an active girls section for which Moments of Joy paid the shirts and shoes.
Girls want to play football but for many clubs the girls are seen as less important. Centro de Encontro promotes girls football with own leagues and open days. In addition to the benefits this gives to the girls it also presents the AIDS-workers of the center with a chance to talk about prevention of the disease to the many spectators (especially girls) who come to watch the games.
This year, the girl’s section of the football school has grown fast. There are 3 new volunteers willing to get a trainers diploma and each train 50 girls. There are 2 selections from the district Xipamanine (in downtown Maputo) and one selection in the neighbourhood of Hulene (close to the Laulane district where the street school is located). The organization is very happy with the new trainers and the new girls who train with great commitment. In total 250 girl players and 5 trainers now play an increasingly important role in the development of girls football in the city. To support this extra activity we seek 500 Euros to buy sporting equipment such as balls and smocks. TOTAAL €500
