Survival of the H. family in Honduras

The H. Family (full name and address known by Moments of Joy) consists of a mother (34 years) and two sons (14 and 15 years). The father has abandoned his family long ago.
He has not assumed any responsibility for their maintenance. In spite of the problems of the family (they have been thrown out of the house of an aunt and the mother has asthma) and the extreme poverty they live in, mother and children have a good relationship. There is a lot of affection between them and the boys are intelligent and good students. The family went into crisis when the mother (low schooling, incomplete elementary) was fired from her last job because of her asthma. She has worked in several factories and in kitchens, but her favourite activity is the street sales of (second hand) clothes. This would be a good occupation for her, but she can't pay for the supply to sell. The household's economic situation is very precarious. The eldest son studies in the morning as a computer technician and works as a sales clerk in a department store after 1 p.m., but his salary does not cover their living expenses, let alone the schools of the boys. The only option the family sees, is the illegal immigration of the mother to the US, where she thinks she can find work. This would mean the boys would remain alone, which does not improve their chances of a stable future.

The social worker (report in our possession) and a projectfinder from Moments of Joy have taken the interest of the family to heart. They have made a plan for the survival of the family, which will cost 2005 US$. This includes a stock-finance for the start of the streetsales business for the mother and transport for her and the clothes to houses and markets, for a year. Also, schooluniform and fees and school supplies and transport for the boys for one year. It is expected that the mother will be able to fully support the family with the income from her micro-business after this year. The eldest son will be able to graduate as computer technician in three years (including 2003).
Moments of Joy would like to add an extra 50 US$ and ask the social worker for a proposal to spend this on something "festive" for the family. This brings the total amount of money needed on 2055 US$.
TOTAL $ 2.055,-
