Creation of a vegetable garden near the Nkulamaziba School - Zambia

Moments of Joy's first contact with ZAP - Zambia Allocation Program was in 2014 when we did a project togehter (see our website)
ZAP started building a primary school in Nkulamaziba aswell as housing for teachers. These buildings will all be finished in Febuary 2015. ZAP will have built 5 classrooms, 8 houses for the teaching staff and many toilets. When this project is completed ZAP will start building classrooms for a Secondary School.
At the moment there are 492 children attending the school - 50% girls and 50% boys.
A few of the mothers makes sure that the children have lunch before they go home. Lunch usually consists of "shimma" a thick cornsoup/porridge, that fills their tummies but is not very nutritious. When available the mothers will cook different vegetables but this is not often the case.

The plan is to make a vegetable garden. This should be a relative large vegetable garden as there are 492 mouths to feed (and in future these numbers will only grow).
The garden will have to have a fence around it to stop the chicken and other animals from eating the seeds or young crop. Different seeds will be needed such as; Onion-. tomato-, cabbage- and other seeds.
They will also need garden hose, a few sprinklers, shovels and other gardening tools.
Under the supervision of the teachers the children will create the garden themselves, work in it and learn what you need to do, and how to do it, to make plants grow and how to take care of the garden.
Another purpose of this garden is to be able to feed the children other vegetables instead of the "shimma" so they will have more variety in their nutrition pattern.

Amount needed for the creation of the vegetable garden is € 2.000,--
