vocational school for young women in slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh

Report on sewing training

This vocational education has received funding from Moments of Joy in 2015 Thanks to the funding it can help many (often young) women to find a good job, so they can provide for their families. In Bangladesh, there is no alimony, and if a man leaves his family they are at the mercy of relatives. Single mothers have a hard time to take care of their children. It is therefore vital that they find employment and generate income. Through the vocational education of sewing and embroidery these young women learn how to take the size, learn pattern making, cutting, sewing, decorating of fabrics with embroidery or maing tablecloths and linen embroidery. As they gain knowledge and experience during the training, they can often find a better paid job at a local sewing shop or in a garment factory. Some are so talented that they can start their own sewing workshop. If we see that a woman has a lot of talent, insight and perseverance, we'll help her with a loan for materials and a sewing machine, so they can start their own business.
we thank Moments of joy for their support for this project

Sincerely,

vocational training for sewing and needlework for women in the slums of dhaka, Bangladesh

women who enroll in the school for sewing and fine needlework founded by the organisation 'friends for the poor people' learn how to draw patterns, sew and decorate clothing with fine needlework and can go to work as a trained seamstress. All the women that finish the school will find work in a clothing factory or smaller sewing workshop and earn more than half to even twice as much as they would without the education. Some have even started their own sewingshop.

Bangladesh is known as one of the poorest countries in the world. Famine, flooding, bombexplosions, You never hear anything positive in the news coming from this country or its people.
The JWsupport organisation is now asking for financial aid for one of its projects in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This organisation's goal is to improve living circumstances for the poorest children and women in third world countries by enhancing 'fair trade', tourism, healthcare and education. Women and children living on the edge of civilization often do not have the money to afford food, or even medical care or education.Luckily there are small scale initiatives to change circumstances for these women. JW support is trying to help these initiatives and they are asking for financial support for  “friends for the poor people” in Dhaka, a local initiative that founded a vocational school for sewing and needlework in one of the slums of Dhaka to enable young women to earn money so they can take care of their families. In one year they can train 3 groups of 15 - 20 women.  JW Support already funded this school for a couple of years but is now short on money. To keep the school open for this coming year they need  € 2800,00.
