water filtering equipment for orphanage in Vietnam

The foundation Mai nha has built two orphanages in a small poor village for the care of 10 orphans.
One of the most important things for these children is clean drinking water. There was originally a well but this well has been found contaminated by the local authoraties. Investing in good quality drinking water is important therefore the Mai nha foundation is requesting funding for water filtering equipment

The foundation mai nha
The foundation has two goals. Firstly, the care of orphans in this region in a safe and loving environment. Secondly, the foundation also wants to ensure that the community around the home can share in the medical and educational facilities especially the underprivileged children of the village.

Mai nha was founded by Dutchman Marc Witlox and his French wife Marie Ponsin. They are our direct contacts (our project finders) for this project. Marc and Marie have spent a lot of time in Vietnam and fell for this beautiful country. Each year they return for three months and also each summer to oversee and monitor the project.

The orphanage
The children will grow up "en famille". Each home is run by a team led by a "mother superior" who will look after the children until they are independent. The children will attend a local school and will not be eligible for adoption. Scholarships, preventive health care and hygiene for the orphans of the house will also be available for other children of the village. The emphasis will be on the quality of care for these children which Marc and Marie find extremely important: care with love and joy and fun for the orphans but also for the other children of the village. Various festivities will be held throughout the year at the orphanage itself but also for all the children of the village.

report from the foundation Mai Nha:

There has been an ongoing problem for the Mai Nha foundation to ensure clean water supply for daily use such as washing and toilet use, for daily consumption of water in the kitchen and drinking water and for cleaning purposes and maintaining the garden. They also have been  facing  frequent power outages especially in the dry season. Electricity is essential for ventilation of the youngest babies bedrooms, for fridges of the two homes, to ensure lighting is available at dusk (from 6 pm), and to ensure ongoing water supply through the water pumps but also for a fridge which will keep vaccines and antidotes available for the village community in case of spider or snake bites so they don’t have to travel the 25km to the nearest hospital  Mai Nha submitted financial aid request at moments of joy to help solve the problems in both areas : the  “ a dry well” requiring the digging of a new well as well as a new generator because of the frequent generator break downs requiring significant costly parts replacements.
As Mai Nha is located in a rather remote area, the financial aid is of great importance both to an organization like Mai Nha as for the village community near the orphanages.  The problems of both  water - and power supply has been solved thanks to the generous gift of moments of joy helping all orphans, the staff and the people that live in the area.
