Water for Danda Kharka village, Nepal € 2090,--

In 2009 four villages near Mude, Nepal, received water through active participation of the Namaste Foundation Breda and a donation by Moments of Joy. One of the villages, Danda Kharka, in that area could't get the access to water as it was located on higher grounds and the cost of bringing water up-hill would be enormous.

A solution was found to provide this village with water as well. With the consent of the government Danda Kharka was allowed to retrieve water from a glacier lake in the area called "Prabal Gharedj" not too far from the village. This water is clear and safe to drink and can also be used to water the crops and drinking water for their cattle. Two wells were built and 7 km of water pipes were used to solve Danda Kharka's water problem (in the picture you see the pipes above the ground but they have now all been dug in).

All this resulting in water for all households and a watering spot for passersby.
The parents as well as the children will be washing more frequently and their lives will become more hygienic. Water for their cattle, the dishes, to cook with, to water their crops all at arms lengths. Their lives have improved dramatically.

The children were especially happy as they were the ones that had to carry water from the villages in the valley. As a result they can leave for school in time!
Together with the Namaste Foundation the people of Danda Kharka have realized this plan in which their own contribution has been 25% of the total cost. By asking the villagers a contribution in the project their feeling of responsibility is being triggered which will help them take care of the system in the future. Moments of Joy has enjoyed working together with the Namaste Foundation Breda once again.
